CV Joint and Boot Service
A CV axle consists of two CV joints. The axle sends torque and transmission from the engine to drive the vehicle's wheels.
CV joints, or constant velocity joints are universal joints that can effectively transfer torque at big angles. They transfer power very smoothly. CV joints are made up of four parts:
- the outer section that has grooves machined on its inner surface,
- the bearings that are usually in a "cage",
- the inner ball that has grooves on its outer surface for the bearings to ride in,
- a rubber boot that is intend to protect the unit from dirt and moisture.
One of the common causes of CV joint failure is crack in the CV boot. When it is cracked, it allows dirt and grit to mix with the grease and wear down the parts of the joint. While turning it you can hear a clicking noise. It is the most ordinary symptom of CV joint problems. You should have your CV boots repaired or replaced when you can see cracking in their rubber folds.
Note that you should never open a boot to inspect the CV joint. The boots are airtight, that is why if you open it, the CV joint will require inspecting and repairing.
The C.A.R.S Company Service can inspect your CV joints and repair or replace them if needed. We advice you to go to The C.A.R.S Company Service because you will not be able to replace CV joints yourself.
